JUVÉDERM® The Ultimate Facial Filler
"It's your Face, Trust it to an Artist." ®
JUVÉDERM® (including JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC, and now JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC) is a smooth gel filler with hyaluronic acid (HA) that Dr. Cadoux skillfully and artistically uses to smooth away wrinkles around your mouth, nose and other areas. HA is natural to the body so there are no allergic reactions, and skin testing is not required. With just one treatment, you’ll get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year or longer. Full correction may require more than one treatment. It is used by both women and men.
Treatment of Wrinkles – Background
1. Understanding Where Wrinkles Form
Your skin consists of two layers known as the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis, or outer layer of the skin, acts as the skin’s primary defense against the environment. The dermis, or innermost layer of the skin, is composed primarily of connective tissue and provides the skin with a support network. Most facial wrinkles and deeper nasolabial folds occur within the dermal layer of the skin.
2. Our Skin’s Natural Moisturizer
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule. Much like a sponge, its primary function is to bind and absorb water, which creates volume in the face. In this way, Hyaluronic acid can be thought of as the body’s internal moisturizer. But, as we age, HA diminishes, which contributes to the presence of lines and folds. JUVÉDERM® injectable gel works to correct this by restoring hyaluronic acid in your skin, helping to diminish wrinkles and nasolabial folds.
3. Experiencing Rejuvenation with Juvederm
JUVÉDERM® dermal filler is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment for nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles. Using a fine needle, Dr. Cadoux eases JUVÉDERM® under the skin to fill the soft tissue of the dermis. This adds volume and diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and nasolabial folds instantly. To get the best results, placement of Juvederm needs to be individualized and precise; placement is based on the contours of your face and your desired outcome.
While there are a variety of hyaluronic acid fillers, JUVÉDERM® is uniquely formulated. A next generation HA filler, JUVÉDERM® uses a manufacturing process called HYLACROSS™ technology. HYLACROSS™ gives JUVÉDERM® its special smooth-gel structure that holds up over time. That’s why JUVÉDERM® is the first smooth-consistency HA gel and the only HA filler that’s FDA approved* to last up to one year with only one treatment.
1. JUVEDERM is long-lasting.
JUVÉDERM® is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved* to last up to one year with one treatment.
2. It’s smooth and more comfortable.
Not all HA dermal fillers are created equal. Other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels, but our unique manufacturing process (HYLACROSS™) makes JUVÉDERM® a smooth-consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice but no one except you and Dr. Cadoux will know!
3. It’s safe and effective for different skin types.
JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with JUVÉDERM® showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.
4. JUVEDERM is personalized.
One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to wrinkle treatment. A customized treatment plan is important for achieving the best results. That’s why JUVÉDERM® is available in two formulations—JUVÉDERM® Ultra for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds, and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus, a more robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and facial wrinkles. This allows Dr. Cadoux to tailor treatment to meet your unique needs.
What to Expect
Because JUVEDERM® is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment*, there is minimal recovery or downtime (and the results are instant!). So you can make an appointment to stop by Greenspring Rejuvenation for treatment on the way home from work or the gym, or even while the kids are at soccer practice—and get right back to your daily routine. Here’s what to expect when you visit our office for treatment.
Before the JUVEDERM® Treatment
We recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to receiving the treatment for wrinkles in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. When you make your appointment, ask our front desk about our bruising protocol.
JUVEDERM® Safety Considerations
With any cosmetic treatment, safety is our first concern. As always, it’s important to consult with Dr. Cadoux before deciding on a wrinkle treatment. Because JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is a non-surgical, in-office treatment, most patients experience minimal recovery and downtime.
We will tell you what to expect following treatment with JUVÉDERM® injectable gel. In addition, please ask Dr. Cadoux or his assistant any questions/concerns you may have following treatment.
You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:
- Strenuous exercise
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages
- Extended exposure to sun or heat
Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. If there is swelling, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area.

Where Does JUVÉDERM® Work?
Everyone’s skin ages differently and JUVÉDERM® may be used to rejuvenate multiple problem areas.* From smile lines to vertical lip lines, to marionette lines, you can smooth away unwanted wrinkles and restore natural contours.
How does JUVÉDERM® Work?
Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds – like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.
Using a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® is a safe and effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
What are the possible JUVÉDERM® Side Effects?
JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is generally well tolerated. Most side effects are mild to moderate in nature and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are generally biocompatible, which means allergy skin testing is not required prior to treatment.
What if I have Allergies?
Before your first treatment you will fill out a medical history and have a free consultation with Dr. Cadoux to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for treatment. Please let us know at that time if you have any allergies. JUVÉDERM® injectable gel for facial wrinkles and folds should not be used in patients who have:
- Severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis or history or presence of multiple severe allergies
- A history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins
- JUVÉDERM® should not be used in patients with a history of allergies to lidocaine.
