INJECTABLES FAQ

What’s the difference between Juvéderm®, Radiesse® and Bellafill®?

  • Juvéderm fillers are made of a smooth gel that’s packed with a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA). Juvéderm fillers include Juvéderm Ultra XC, Ultra Plus XC, Voluma®, Volbella® and Vollure®. All these fillers provide benefits ranging from six to 12 months except Voluma, which has a heartier formula designed to provide structure that can last up to two years for the cheeks and chin.
  • Radiesse is a smooth gel that’s packed with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a naturally occurring substance in the body that’s found primarily in our bones. While HA-based fillers like Juvéderm provide immediate volume by filling the skin with a smooth HA gel, Radiesse also helps stimulate new collagen growth, providing benefits for up to 15 months.
  • Bellafill helps stimulate new collagen growth. It contains particles of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA), a synthetic substance that has been safely used in medicine for years. Unlike Radiesse or HA fillers, Bellafill stays in the body for up to five years to provide long-lasting support and natural-looking, age-defying benefits.

Why are there so many different types of Juvéderm fillers?

Made by Allergan®, the Juvéderm family of fillers is ever popular AND ever-expanding, it seems! There’s a different filler for every possible need:

  • JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC is approved for restoring volume in the cheek area and for augmentation of the chin to enhance and define your chin profile.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLLURE XC, JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus XC and JUVÉDERM Ultra XC injectable gels are approved for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
  • JUVÉDERM Ultra XC is also approved for lip augmentation and smoothing the perioral area.
  • JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC is approved for subtle lip augmentation and improving the look of undereye hollows.

What’s the difference between Botox and fillers?

Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator that relaxes targeted muscles, allowing the skin above to smooth out. Botox is ideal for smoothing crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines and brow furrows (11’s). Botox works differently from fillers, helping to smooth away lines on the upper areas of the face by relaxing muscle movements. Fillers help smooth lines on the lower areas of the face by plumping up the skin and restoring lost volume. Their differences make these two injectables a perfect pairing because together they provide a full face of age-defying benefits.

What are off-label injectable treatments?

Fillers and neuromodulators are FDA-approved for specific areas of the face, but this doesn’t mean that these products can only be safely used for those FDA-approved areas. For example, Voluma was first FDA-approved for only the cheeks, but its firm and robust consistency made it ideal for accentuating and adding definition to the jawline area. This is why physicians have been safely administering Voluma for the chin area as an “off-label” treatment for the past few years. Today, however, Voluma is FDA-approved for both the cheeks and jawline. Our injectors are highly trained to administer optimal injectables treatments and will draw from years of experience to safely administer the most flattering results, based on your unique needs and goals.

Do I need filler or a collagen stimulator?

This is a great question! We love collagen stimulators because they can afford natural benefits by stimulating your body’s own collagen production. Knowing your results are coming from your very own body can be highly satisfying. That said, there are benefits to HA-based fillers. Traditional HA fillers afford immediate satisfaction, whereas a collagen stimulator works more gradually over time to reveal optimal results. HA-based fillers are also ideal for augmenting specific areas such as the lips or jawline. We will work closely with you during your personal consultation to determine an injectables regimen that perfectly suits your needs and goals.
